Leif Ove Andsnes
LEIF OVE ANDSNES has been hailed as “a pianist of magisterial elegance, power and insight” (New York Times) and “one of the most gifted musicians of his generation” (Wall Street Journal). Born in Norway, Andsnes has a busy schedule performing as a concert soloist and in solo recitals alongside chamber music performances; he is also the founder of the Rosendal Chamber Music Festival.
Andsnes studied with Jirí Hlinka at the Bergen Conservatory. In the 2019–2020 season, his calendar included performances of Grieg’s Piano Concerto in Scandinavia and the USA and recitals with bass baritone Matthias Goerne, for instance at La Scala in Milan. His recordings for EMI Classics, spanning repertoire from Bach to contemporary, have earned him six Gramophone awards. Andsnes has a teaching position in Bergen, where he lives with his wife and three children.
