The Turku Music Festival next year will begin with a gala dedicated to the music of composer-in-residence P\u0113teris Vasks conducted by Klaus M\u00e4kel\u00e4, artistic director of the Festival, on Saturday 7 August 2021 at 19.00. Two concerts by Olavi Uusivirta scheduled for summer 2020 were postponed to next summer: he will be appearing at the Ruissalo Shipyard on 11 and 12 August 2021. The concert featuring soprano Nadine Sierra has been rescheduled for August 2022.<\/strong><\/p>\n OPENING CONCERT at Turku Concert Hall, 7 August 2021 at 19.00<\/strong><\/p>\n The Turku Music Festival is currently preparing for summer 2021, where the programme will include both concerts postponed from summer 2020 and concerts previously planned for 2021. The opening concert of next summer\u2019s Festival is dedicated to the music of the Festival\u2019s composer-in-residence, P\u0113teris Vasks from Latvia. The programme includes his violin concerto Distant Light <\/em>with Ilya Gringolts as soloist. The Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra will be conducted by Klaus M\u00e4kel\u00e4, artistic director of the festival, and the composer will be in attendance.<\/p>\n \u201cI can still remember when I heard P\u0113teris\u2019s music for the first time. His Violin Concerto Distant Light<\/em> opened up a window to a new world for me, and I have been a fan of his wonderful music ever since. Olavi is one of Finland\u2019s most talented performers in popular music,\u201d says Liisa Ketom\u00e4ki, managing director of the Turku Music Festival. \u201cIt is impossible to predict how the coronavirus situation will develop between now and next summer, but globally \u2013 for instance at the Metropolitan Opera \u2013 the assumption seems to be that the 2021\u20132022 season will represent a return to normal. We certainly hope so and would love to be able to welcome summer visitors to Turku again in August 2021. If there are any major changes between now and then, we will of course just have to go with the flow,\u201d says Ketom\u00e4ki.<\/p>\n Concert featuring Nadine Sierra rescheduled to August 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n The concert with the Turku Philharmonic conducted by Lorenzo Passerini and featuring soprano Nadine Sierra, originally scheduled for summer 2020, has been rescheduled \u2018as is\u2019 to August 2022.<\/p>\n \u201cWe had to go forward as far as August 2022 to find a new concert date that suited Nadine Sierra, Lorenzo Passerini and the Turku Philharmonic, so that we could reschedule the concert without making any changes. There may be some slight amendments to the programme, for instance in terms of the specific opera arias included, but the framework and concept remain the same. The new date is Thursday 18 August 2022. Though it is almost two years away, we are publishing this now, because we have had an exceptional number of inquiries from customers wishing to secure their tickets well in advance,\u201d says Ketom\u00e4ki.<\/p>\n Nadine Sierra, soprano Otto Nicolai (1810\u20131849): Tickets to all concerts of the Turku Music Festival are on sale at all Lippupiste outlets.
