Thomas Hampson
THOMAS HAMPSON is one of the leading American baritones of our time. His merits include the title of ‘Met Mastersinger’ awarded by the Metropolitan Opera Guild, induction into the Hall of Fame of Gramophone magazine and the distinguished Concertgebouw Prize.
Highlights of Hampson’s 2019–2020 season include creating the role of Vermeer in Stefan Wirth’s opera Girl with a Pearl Earring at the Zurich Opera and revisiting the role of Germont in La traviata at the Vienna National Opera and the role of Altair in Strauss’s Die ägyptische Helena at La Scala in Milan. He also has frequent concert engagements, for instance at the Verbier Festival and a recital with his regular pianist Wolfram Rieger at Wigmore Hall in London.
Hampson also regularly gives online masterclasses through the Manhattan School of Music, Medici.tv and the Hampsong Foundation, which he established. He is the director of the Heidelberg Lied Academy and annually collaborates with the Schubert Week of the Barenboim-Said Academy in Berlin.
