Michael Sturminger
MICHAEL STURMINGER graduated as a stage director from the University of Music and Performing Arts in his native Vienna. He has directed operas, stage plays and films, working for instance at the Vienna State Opera, the opera houses in Cologne and Zurich and the Taiwan National Theatre. He wrote the libretto for Bernhard Lang’s opera I Hate Mozart and directed a production of it at the Theater an der Wien. He has also directed productions of Idomeneo and Ariadne auf Naxos at the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg.
Sturminger was awarded the Max Ophüls Prize for his film Hurensohn and the Romy Prize for the film Casanova Variations, which is based on one of the three productions that he has co-created with John Malkovich and Martin Haselböck.
