The Turku Music Festival is pleased to announce a Christmas recital by Karita Mattila at Turku Concert Hall on Wednesday 16 December 2020 at 19.00. The accompanist will be confirmed later.

“I am extremely happy to be performing a Christmas programme in Turku! I want to bring some warmth and happiness into this dark and strange year, which also had special meaning for me personally, as I celebrated a meaningful birthday. It feels so festive to be able to sing my favourite Christmas songs for an audience. Please join me there!” says Karita Mattila happily.

“The Turku Music Festival is pleased to be able to offer this wonderful Christmas recital, which is our last concert of the year and thus our sign-off for the holidays. It is sure to be an emotionally uplifting experience,” says Liisa Ketomäki, managing director of the Turku Music Festival.

The programme of the recital consists of well-known and well-loved Christmas songs. The accompanist will be confirmed later. Tickets for Karita Mattila’s Christmas recital will go on sale on 2 October at 13.00 at all Lippupiste outlets.

The Schubertiade recital of the Turku Music Festival will be streamed live via ISTV.

“We are seeking to stream more and more of our concerts in the future to allow a wider audience to enjoy them. Under our new strategy, we have been exploring partnerships in this field for a couple of years now, and we are happy to be working with ISTV and Ilta-Sanomat,” says Liisa Ketomäki.

Change of performer: cellist Senja Rummukainen replaced by cellist Marko Ylönen.

At Karita Mattila’s Christmas recital, as at all concerts of the Turku Music Festival, attendance at Turku Concert Hall will be limited to just over 300, taking safe distancing into account. Concert guests will be directed into the hall so that distancing is observed. The Turku Music Festival recommends using face masks. “Our employees will be wearing face masks. We will be handing out face masks at the door to audience members, and I hope that people will take them and wear them if they have not brought one of their own. This is the procedure with which it has proven possible to resume concerts in central Europe: limited attendance, safe distancing and face masks. The performers and audience will also be separated by a safe distance. We will do our best to avoid crowding and queuing. We take the safety of customers, performers and employees very seriously, and if we follow all these measures, then concerts should be safe to attend,” says Liisa Ketomäki, managing director of the Turku Music Festival.

The artistic director of the Turku Music Festival is conductor Klaus Mäkelä.
