Turku Music Festival postpones Juan Diego Flórez’s recital from this summer to June 2021. In August 2021, guests will include one of the world’s most prominent Wagner sopranos, Lise Davidsen, and pianist Leif Ove Andsnes

The preview concert of the Turku Music Festival scheduled for 28 June, with tenor Juan Diego Flórez and pianist Vincenzo Scalera, has been postponed to June 2021. The new date is Friday 18 June 2021 at 19.00. Tickets that have already been purchased or reserved will be valid with no further action. The programme will be announced in spring 2021.

“The Turku City Board has recommended that all public mass events be cancelled up until 31 July, and we are thus taking the responsible and sensible course of action in postponing Juan Diego Flórez’s recital to a future date. We are happy that we are already able to announce the new date, and we hope that it will suit our audience. Anyone who has already bought tickets will be able to use them in June 2021 with no further ado, but we will also refund tickets for this recital if returned before 31 May 2020. We think this is only fair, since the event is now more than a year away,” says Liisa Ketomäki, Managing Director of the Turku Music Festival Foundation.

The Turku Music Festival is now also announcing its first new concert for summer 2021. Currently the most acclaimed and sought-after Wagner soprano in the world, Lise Davidsen, will appear with pianist Leif Ove Andsnes at Turku Concert Hall on Tuesday 17 August 2021 at 19.00. The two prominent Norwegian performing artists will be performing a programme built around Edvard Grieg’s song cycle Haugtussa.

The New York Times has described Lise Davidsen as “one voice in a million”, and Opera Now magazine has declared that Wagner singers like her only come along once in a generation. Leif Ove Andsnes is one of Norway’s internationally most celebrated pianists and described by the Wall Street Journal as one of the most gifted musicians of his generation. Their joint recital is bound to be one of the highlights in Finland’s musical calendar in 2021.

Tickets for the recital by Lise Davidsen and Leif Ove Andsnes go on sale at all Lippupiste points of sale on Monday 27 April 2020 at 10.00.

Further announcements concerning the Festival to be held in August 2020 will be made as necessary. Tickets for all concerts of the Turku Music Festival are on sale at Lippupiste points of sale.
